Over the past decade, in addition to his adaptation of Frank Wedekind's Musik, Neil has translated a number of contemporary German and French plays, and a French children's book.

In 2017, he completed a translation of Iranian-born Paris-based writer Kazem Shahryari's harrowing study of the treatment of women in immigrant communities, l'Automne Précoce - English title An Early Autumn.

He also translated Denis Baronnet's brilliant children's book Dans Les Dents - An Inconvenient Tooth.

Do Not Pass Go

Do Not Pass Go is a translation of German playwright Ulrike Syha's hit comedy Herr Schuster Kauft Eine Strasse, first performed at Germany's Nationaltheater in Mannheim in 2010. New York's Voyage Theatre company staged a first English language reading of Do Not Pass Go in Manhattan on Feb 19, 2015. An extract was published in US translation journal Asymptote in 2014.

Superheroes is a translation of Austrian playwright Ewald Palmetshofer's Helden, and was first performed at New York's HotINK festival in 2008. Extracts have also appeared in Asymptote.

Fish Soup, first performed at the Tampere International Theatre Festival in 2005, is a translation of German author Paul Brodowsky's Stadt Land Fisch. It was also performed at the 2010 New York HotINK festival. Performed at the same festival was Neil's translation Digging of Austrian writer Christian Winkler's play Graben.

Neil is a long-standing member of The Fence, an international playwrights' and theatre-makers' organisation, and is a member of the German-language judging committee of translation network Eurodram.
